Indian Team for Cricket World Cup 2015 Announced, Yuvraj Left Out

Know about some of the key players in the Indian squad for the ICC CWC – 2015:

Women-101: From An ‘Engineering’ Point Of View

“I would rather get a degree in engineering and do my PhD than try and understand women” – a man.
For time immemorial, men have always wanted to “understand” women. But they have always failed. Always. I don’t know why. If you’re able enough to get through engineering, it’s a piece of cake to understand women (at least according to me). Because women can be understood if you understand basic laws of science and engineering. For starters, let me put it this way. Did you ever try to balance a switch between ‘on’ and ‘off’? We are kind of like that. We are always trying to balance a switch between ‘on’ and ‘off’. We fail, yet we keep trying. In other words, we are always trying to balance things out.
We want things to be perfect. Orderly. We want stability. Metaphorically speaking, we are always trying (and succeeding sometimes) to defy idealness. I might seem crazy (I think I am crazy), but I will make sense. Keep reading.
Now, basic understanding of thermodynamics can help you understand better. You might have an idea about the second law of thermodynamics. Any thermodynamic process always results in an increase in entropy. Entropy is the state of disorder in a system. Now men; you are always trying to disrupt the order of anything. You want change. Chaos. Excitement. Now women on the other hand, are always striving for perfection. Order. We always want everything to be perfect. For example, your mom. Always managing the family. Trying to bring order. (Am I starting to make sense yet?) . We are always trying to disrupt chaos and disorder ( a double negative statement). We are hence defying a state of idealness. See?
To explain in simpler terms, consider an inclined plane (Everybody has studied them in physics, right?). An ideal one- without friction. Now a block on an ideal inclined plane slides down (because there is no friction). If men are the block, women are like friction. We stabilize you (men). Again, we defied the ideal condition.
–   We are a convergent infinite series, while you are divergent.
–   You are molecules of water; we are the hydrogen bonds holding you together.
–   We want everything, yet we want nothing.
–   We can love you like nothing else can; we can hate you just as much.
–   We can smother you with compassion; we can be just as cold.
–   We can be black, we can be white.
–   We are a perfect paradox.
-   You are time, we are space. Together, we are a continuum. We complete you. You complete us.


How to Create Stimulating Photo Manipulation via Adobe Photoshop?

The tutorial requires at least a basic knowledge of the Adobe Photoshop Software.
- Right-Click on the pictures and “open link in a new tab” to see the high-definition images.
Step 1:
Chose a stimulating background.
Your background should be interesting, but it should not attract anymore attention than your subject itself. Choose something subtle, avoid flashy colors such as purple, pink, yellow…….you get my drift. Right?
Step 2:
Setup your Camera.
I originally used a Sony Alpha 58 with a tripod for this particular project but I suppose you can easily get it done with a steady spot instead of a tripod and a mobile camera with a decent picture quality. (No, I am not exaggerating!!!!!)
Ask your subject (in this case, my childhood friend Vibhuti. Hi! Vibhu, if you’re reading this :D ) to stand in the designated place while you set up the focus of the camera. Try to set the aperture in the lower range. Remember to not disturb the position of the camera after you’ve set it up because you’ll be needing like a million photos from the same position.

Step 3:
Shoot!Shoot!Shoot!
If you’re still with me by now, here comes the fun part now. Most of these photos you take now will form the basis of the Photoshop work you’ll be doing later. Try to get a lot of photos for easier manipulation.
The trick is to make it seem the hair is almost flying in the air.Set the shutter speed on your camera to really, really fast so you can get every minute detail of the hair.(Try not to get blurry hair). Shoot a lot of photos of hair in all the directions to form a major bulk of the hair later via Photoshop.
I hope by now you’d have a clear idea of what I meant.
Now ask model to raise the hair with the help of her hands.This is the important part, if the hair rests on the shoulders in the final image, the whole picture will look very unnatural.

 Now comes the last one.Take a picture with the kind of expression you’d  want your model to have in the final picture. Also, make sure the arms are resting in this image as you’d have to blend in the resting arms and the face from this picture into the above picture.

The Post Processing Process
Step 1:
Select the images you’ll be using for the final image. Add a “Mask” to all the layers one by one and press “Ctrl” + “I” to invert the mask. Set the Brush shape to Round, Hardness to 0, and Opacity to about 96%.Set the colour to White and carefully select the hair you’d want to include in the picture.(NOTE : This step is most important. It took me nearly 12 hours to get this right. Also I’d advise you to use “Clone Stamp” and “Burn Tool” to fill in any blank space between the hair and darken the hair ends.)
Step 2:
Blending.
Now using the images A and B, Construct the final image using the same process by selecting using masking.
NOTE: I also modified the colours using the Adobe Lightroom, you could do the same via Adobe Photoshop only. (play with Hue/Saturation, Colour Levels, Brightness/Contrast, Vignetting) or any other software like Picasa, or even the ones on your phone will work. (Again, not exaggerating!)
 
Step 3:
Adding Planes.
Google something like “Paper Plane png”. .Png images are already extracted images i.e you’d not need to extract the objects from the background (I usually use deviantart.com for this). Put the planes in the desired positions and brush them a little brown to give them a “Burnt paper” like effect.
Step 4:
Creating Depth of Field.
To make the picture more real, you’d need to add depth of field to it. The planes closer to the camera need to be more blurred than the ones near the subject. To attain this, select the plane layer and go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Select the radius to the desired value, more the radius, more the blur and the closer the plane layer will appear to the camera. Do this for all the planes and you should get something like this.
Step 5:
Adding Fire.
Search again for the png images of fire and you’ll mostly get something with black backgrounds. To remove the black background, select the layer type from “Normal” to “Screen” and the black should go away now. Place those fire “layers” on the planes now and blur them a little by using the process explained above.

And now you should get something like this!


Microsoft launches new Outlook app for iOS, Android users

Taking Gmail and other email apps head on, Microsoft has launched a new Outlook app for iOS and Android devices.
The new app is basically a replacement for San Francisco-based email startup Acompli that was acquired by Microsoft for $200 million in December last year,New York Daily News reported.
Outlook will support Office 365, Exchange, Outlook.com, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, iCloud and other key email services.
The app will also help users manage calendar and fetch attachments within the same app.
Users will be able to attach files from Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive or the user’s mailbox right from the app.
“Our mission is to bring the best mobile email experience across platforms, in a way that is as familiar and functional as Outlook itself,” Javier Soltero, Outlook general manager and former CEO of Acompli said in a statement.
The new Outlook app will be a similar experience to the Acompli.
Microsoft also announced that it is removing the “preview” tag from its Office for Android apps.

Facebook has exceeded analysts’ predictions with annual results of double the net profit posted by the company a year earlier — thanks to good business growth through mobile devices in 2014.
The company earned in 2014 a net profit of $2.9 billion, nearly double the figure of 2013, while Facebook’s income last year amounted to $12.4 billion, representing an increase of 58.4 per cent compared to the previous year.
The results presented on Wednesday showed that the business branch of Facebook grew more last year and confirmed the success of the company to make the network more mobile-based.
In December 2014, the number of Facebook subscribers reached 890 million which meant a growth of 18 per cent compared to a year earlier.
Of the total number of active daily users, 745 million (84 per cent) logged in to the network through mobile devices, which accounted for a 34-per cent increase compared to the previous year.
In addition, revenues derived from advertising on mobile phones during the last quarter of 2014 accounted for 69 per cent of total revenue, 16 percentage points more than in the same period in 2013.
To take full advantage of this trend, Mark Zuckerberg’s company presented Facebook Audience Network last year, a network that puts in contact exhibition platforms — mostly mobile applications — with advertisers.
Facebook Mobile aims to penetrate emerging markets such as Latin America and Southeast Asia where not everyone has access to computers but where the use of smartphones is significantly increasing.
During the three months of October, November and December, Facebook shareholders earned profits of $0.25 per share, compared to the $0.20 in the same period the previous year, while the company had a turnover of $3.8 billion, marking an increase of 48.6 per cent, with $2.58 billion for the last quarter of 2013.
Facebook’s results, however, did not meet investor expectations and the share price slipped by 1.81 per cent to $74.87 per share in electronic trading after the close of the markets in New York.

Google making artificial human skin

Search giant Google is developing artificial human skin to test cancer-detecting nanoparticles that will work with a smart wristband.
Last year Google announced that it was working on magnetic nanoparticles that would seek out cancer cells in the bloodstream and report back to a wristband.
Now, the company is also using synthetic skin to develop the technology,theverge.com reported.
Google employees told The Atlantic that the technology will use light signals to talk to the wristband through the superficial veins on the underside of the wrist.
Shining lights through the skin means factoring in a range of skin types and colours, and so Google’s scientists have built fake arms with “the same autofluorescence and biochemical components of real arms.”
“It’s way weirder to have cancer cells floating through your body that are constantly trying to kill you,” said Andrew Conrad, the head of Google’s Life Sciences department.
